Connect your classroom with the world!
Introduction |
Global Education is the process of creating a learning environment centered on guiding students as they construct meaning of the world and their place in it from economic, scientific, cultural, and historical perspectives. Our society is growing and becoming increasingly diversified, making Global Education imperative. According to Pew Research Center, Asia has replaced Latin America (including Mexico) as the biggest source of new immigrants to the U.S., and by 2055, the U.S. will not have a single racial or ethnic majority. Through Global Education, we can prepare for the essential adaptations necessary to function and live harmoniously in our highly dynamic society.
Science shows us that humans are inherently Global Citizens. We are deeply connected, and linked by 99.9% of our DNA. It is just the .1% of us that give us the unique qualities that diversifies our species, the differences essential for our survival as a species. It is through Global Education that students can better understand their Global Citizenship, or the rights, responsibilities, and duties they have as a consequence of being a member of the world community as a whole, and develop the essential Global Competency to make a difference. Through this Global Education Guide, you will gain access to resources that will help you better understand Global Education, and how to implement it in your classroom, school, and district to promote the Global Competency through which students will investigate the world beyond their immediate environment, recognize perspectives, others' and their own, communicate ideas effectively with diverse audiences, and take action to improve conditions. With this Global Competency, students will be able to understand their roles as Global Citizens and develop the will and skill to make a positive difference in our world. |
